On 7 September 2026, the East-West Psychological Science Research Center, Faculty of Psychology, Chulalongkorn University, hosted a Special Talk entitled “What Does Theory Leave Unseen? Critical Reflections on Researching Individuals at Work,” delivered by Dr. David S. A. Guttormsen, Professor in Organisation & Management at the University of South-Eastern Norway.

The talk invited participants to critically reflect on the role of theory in research, particularly how theoretical frameworks shape what researchers observe, interpret, and understand about individuals in the workplace—and how certain perspectives may, at the same time, leave some aspects unseen.

Drawing on examples from research in cross-cultural management, expatriates, and marginalised workers, Dr. Guttormsen highlighted the importance of critically examining the theoretical lenses researchers use and considering how these lenses may both enable and limit our understanding of people and organisational phenomena.

The East-West Psychological Science Research Center would like to express our sincere appreciation to Dr. David S. A. Guttormsen for sharing his valuable insights, perspectives, and research experience. We also extend our thanks to all faculty members, researchers, students, and participants who joined the session and contributed to the engaging academic discussion.
