Biography


Associate Professor Somboon Jarukasemthawee, Ph.D., is the Director of the Clinical Psychology Program and a lecturer in Clinical and Counseling Psychology at the Faculty of Psychology, Chulalongkorn University. He received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Queensland and holds clinical licensure in Thailand. His research interests focus on the integration of Eastern philosophies into Western psychotherapies, particularly mindfulness-based approaches, to reduce psychological distress (e.g., depression, anxiety, and stress) and enhance well-being.
Dr. Jarukasemthawee currently teaches Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and Evidence-Based Psychological Therapies to postgraduate psychology students, as well as Theories of Personality to undergraduate psychology students. In 2025, he received a research grant from the John Templeton Foundation as the principal investigator of an international research project titled Buddhist Spiritual Well-Being, Character Strengths, and Virtues: An Initial Multi-National Study.
